The purpose of tracking specific data from your fire protection and emergency services (FPES) organization is to provide a standard metric for "capability", to identify gaps, and to drive appropriate action(s). Most FPES organizations use some type of monthly manpower reports to record staffing strengths. However, focusing on staffing only, those reports often lack the ability to provide a clear picture of how "healthy" a FPES organization is in terms of strengths and weaknesses in any of its programs.
To remedy this gap, the ERC is used as a standard method of collecting specific Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data while returning a visual of the FPES organization's overall response capability, i.e., Optimal, Reduced, Critical, and Insufficient.
